A crucial part of the work of BRWR is given by the Friendship Group, which provides the personal support of a “befriender” to refugee families while they settle into their new environment in the UK. Our volunteer are then able to provide individual, tailored help to refugees and their families whose needs will vary widely and change over time.
The ultimate aim is to support each family until they are able to independently thrive within their new setting. But it’s hoped the friendships formed, will last forever.
All potential befrienders will be introduced to refugees and their families by an established volunteer who will accompany them for at least four visits. This is to ensure would be befrienders are confident with the challenges they will face and happy with arrangements. All befrienders must have enhanced DBS checks registered by BRWR.
