Bromsgrove refugees will be helped in style after a discount fashion show raised more than £1200 for a twin-town support group.

The catwalk fund-raiser was organised by Bromsgrove and Redditch Welcomes Refugees, a group of volunteers that provides practical and financial aid to around 30 local refugee families from Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine.

A total of 140 people attended the event where women’s outfits from high street retailers were showcased by seven volunteer models including three Ukrainian refugees. The clothes were then sold at discounts of up to 75%.

BRWR chair Yvonne Rendell praised the level of support for the event. “It went very well indeed.  A lot of people were happy to come along, enjoy themselves, do something a little bit different and also help us continue the important work we do supporting our refugees.

“We’re very grateful to all the models who took part, especially our three Ukrainian models. Thanks also to everyone who organised and supported the event.”

BRWR provides a range of support for refugees in both Bromsgrove and Redditch to help them create new lives after fleeing their war-torn home countries.

The fashion show at was held at Bromsgrove Methodist Centre, on Stratford Road. The hall was provided free of charge by the church.
